The Heart Principle
"[A] sparkling romance...witty and lighthearted, with plenty of tender moments to keep readers invested, this work gets the enemies-to-lovers trope right."—Publishers Weekly
They go together like water and oil...
All chef Nina Lyon wants is to make a name for herself in the culinary world and inspire young women everywhere to do the same. For too long, she's been held back and underestimated by the male-dominated sphere of professional kitchens, and she's had enough. Now, as co-host of the competitive reality TV series The Next Cooking Champ!, she finally has a real shot at being top tier in the foodie scene.
Too bad her co-host happens to be Hollywood's smarmiest jerk.
Restaurateur Leo O'Donnell never means to get under Nina's skin. It just seems to happen, especially when the cameras are rolling. It's part of the anxiety and stress he has come to know all too well in this line of work. So nothing prepares him for the fallout after he takes one joke a smidge too far and Nina up and quits—on live TV.
To make matters worse, the two are caught in what looks like a compromising situation by the paparazzi...and fans of the show go absolutely nuts. Turns out, a "secret romance" between Nina and Leo may just be what their careers need most.
Now all they have to do is play along, without killing each other...and without catching feelings. Easy as artisanal shepherd's pie. Right?
Don't miss Erin La Rosa's next charming rom-com, PLOT TWIST, where a romance author who has never been in love searches for inspiration in a friends-with-benefits situation with her reclusive landlord...who just happens to be a former teen heartthrob.

Chef Nina Lyon is at the top of her game. As cohost of a popular cooking competition show, she has a shot at influencing other women who want to break into the male-dominated industry. Unfortunately, she is paired with restaurateur Leo O'Donnell. The two strike sparks, but they are catastrophic, not romantic. Leo is full of anxiety in front of Nina, which causes him to say things with unintended consequences, like nicknaming her "Nasty Nina." When he accidentally uses the nickname during the live season finale broadcast, Nina reacts badly, and a PR nightmare ensues. The answer? A fake romance. Both are surprised when the act becomes real, but neither is sure of the other's true feelings. Narrator Mela Lee creates a sweet listening experience as she describes the pair's awkward steps to get to know each another, flaws and all. She depicts Nina as self-assured and strong, while Leo is charming, with hints of vulnerability. The sex between the two burns up the audio waves. Lee reads these steamy scenes with aplomb, never rushing, but ratcheting up the tension. VERDICT Fans of cute and skillfully narrated enemies-to-lovers/foodie romances will devour La Rosa's delicious debut.--Jodi L. Israel
